I have a 96 formula with a 6 speed. And its starting to grind going into 2nd gear with the clutch to the floor! it does not do it all the time. It will do when not moving most of the time even when down shifting some time. Im hopeing it could be a throw out bearing. Any one have some advice!

Wouldn't be a throwout bearing. Most likely a bent shift fork or synchro's going out, if I had to take a stab at it.

Sounds like a synchro/friction-ring on 2nd gear going bad, if it only happens in 2nd. Possible it could be the shift fork pads also, but either way it looks like the trans needs opened up and gone through.

wonderfull. I guess i will take it to the shop and get it looked at. Thanks for all the help!

could be a number of things... like u said take it to a shop or ship it off to someone that knows how to build em

i took it today the did not even drive the car they told me that the syncros were out of 2nd.. I found some 1 on craigslist to build it for 525 in orlando! So i dont know what im going to do!

This is the very weird thing on this tranny issure, I can be sitting in the drive way and push the clutch in, and it will go right into 2nd gear! but i take it out, and push the clutch in it will grind.. So it looks like time to rebuild her! Any one rebuild this t56 trannys????

The synchros keep the gear from engaging until both shafts are at the same rpm. At idle, it's easy to do as they aren't turning, but driving you're dropping or raising RPMs going up or down through the gears.
