I am building up an 8.8 to put in my 97 SS.

I am going to get an 8.8 Housing with a 31 Spline Carrier, 31 Spline Moser Hardened Custom Axles, and 4.10 Gears. I am going to cut the tubes from my 10-bolt and have them welded to the 8.8 center.

My question is: If I get a 1995 Mustang GT 8.8 Housing with ABS, will any year carrier work with this or are there specific years I have to stick with?

I want my ABS to work still because this will be a daily driver I just need to know what components work together.

ALSO

Am I looking for a Limited Slip carrier, or what?

why would you cut the 10 bolt tubes off and weld them to the 8.8 center. use the stock 8.8 tubes, get moser 9'' ends with GM 10 bolt pattern and flush mount bearings part number fm7900 i believe. this will let you use stock brakes. then when you order you axles from moser just tell them its a 31 spline 8.8 with 9'' big bearing ends. That will elimate the c-clips and let you use the bolt in axles.

the reason he'd be using the 10 bolt tubes is to retain the stock mounting points for the PHB, LCAs, springs and shocks

yeah or just cut them off and put them on the 8.8. I've done it on a few 9'' rears. its only 4 brackets.

Are the axle tubes the same diameter on the 8.8 and 7.5 ten bolt? your gonna have to cut the tack welds on the 10 bolt and have the axle tubes pressed out of the center. have the 8.8 tubes pressed out, and the 10 bolt tubes pressed in and that will only work if they are the same diameter. just cutting the axle tubes off flush and welding them to the cast housing would never be strong enough they need to be pressed into the center. If it was as easy as swapping axle tubes people would be doing it all day long.

Most guys I've heard of do some kind of collar to get the 10 bolt and the 8.8 axle housings to match up.
There was someone else on here who built a jig so that everything would line up and be level when he put the 8.8 center section in.

Read the "8.8 worth the trouble thread" on ls1tech in the axle & gears forum and there is a guy in there making and selling the collars.

The collars were like $120 or something. I'd much rather use the 8.8 tubes and weld the stock 7.5 brackets (and if you don't know how to weld, I'm sure that $120 would be close to covering that labor for those 4 brackets - they're pretty easy to do) and in the end, you have larger/stronger axle tubes. Just the way I see it.

The my donor rear end came from a ford explorer and the pumpkin is not in the center of the rear its kinda to the left.
That is why I am going to get the pumpking cut of and weld stock brackets on with custom moser axels.
