How much was the power gains? Theres a reason everyone and there mother uses a FAST or a LS6 intake

I can't remember where but I read a write up on all the different manifolds and this one was one of the worst on the list. I even believe it said you're better off with the stock LS1. I'm not bashing, just informing.
Wish I could remember where I read the article (all the intakes were dyno tested on the same car)
edit: nevermind the PP wasn't tested, it was just referred to as junk in comparison to the others

Yea and most of the people that post that have no experience w/ them..Ive been driving these cars for years...several LT1's and LS1's and I felt a definate sotp differance so apparently the LS1 intake isnt better off lol. By the way u need to be a member to view that and seeing that its from NY I think I know who it is, the same guy is on techand constantly bashes this intake whenever its brought up.

ls6 vs BBK vs FAST intake manifold test I tested a few intakes, and TB setups on my car. http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
BBK in box still.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02889.jpg
But one thing to remeber looking over this is my car dosn't show gains like alot of other guys cars. Over the past year, its just been showing a lower dyno number from mods and going faster. Having a s60 rearend, steel DS, ram billet flexplate, running big 28 Drs, going to 4:30 gears. But this was all on the same parts, same dyno, just intake changed.
Base line is only 403whp but the car went 11.1s 123 the day before, on the LS6 intake and ported stock TB. with the stock maff with screen, bellow, filter and everything. Older pic, I changed the catch can routing and removed the VC breather.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/DSC02675.jpg
Then I put my summit/PP 85MM TB I ported on the LS6 intake. I know the LS6 intake is a good piece, I heard and think its better then the LS2 and the smaller inlet size is the restriction. Also seen some good gains with the TPIS work putting larger TBs on the LS6 intake. I know I could have dose some expoy work, and make the LS6 intake a 85mm inlet, and ran a paper gasket. But I didnt want to do that to my LS6 its very nice and didn't have the time. To fit it I used what I think was a BBK adapter plate they sell with the TB, just found it around the shop. Needed this to seal on the LS6 inlet Oring. Also need to run the offset bracket on the tottal cable, so you have WOT and normal closed position.

The LS6/ ported stock TB pull I cut short or rpm when my shiftlite came on at 6600
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/IMG_3436.jpg
car gained about 2whp everywhere. I didn't print out a highlighter one run, But The BBK was up everywhere they didn't cross. Might not look like alot, but later on, The latest and baddest, and lots of money.... a fast92 with a 92TB, and a ported 85MAF w/ no screen, and all 4inch duct to it only made 415whp :eyes: so...
next was the BBK 85 intake. Your notice the thing has some weight to it, how much....

BBK
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02874.jpg
Some pics of the BBK. The base coverplate in nice the think looks to be stainless, I think I remebed them a few years ago there were thinner. And it has a nice gasket for them now, all stainless hardwear too, and a map sencor hold down bolt wich it very nice. This intake is great for FI, or hidding a DP kit inside.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02857.jpg
The EGR plate needs to have the powder coat sanded off and sides quick, take 1min. On some its fit tight to get the bolts in.

The BBK runner outlets come with some quick cleanup work that looks good. The runners still have some slag and casting crap in them, I'd knock out with the bend bar beofre running it on your car.

BBK runner lengths
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02876.jpg
close to the rear coolant tube block but clears. Also you can run the full length 97-00 style coolant air bleeds on the heads witch is nice. Something good to do keeping the heads cooler and more consistent temps.

BBK on my car, looks good. Some don't like it? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02888.jpg
Next is the fast92. This one I ported a little. nothing fancy just the basic little things anyone can do. I am going to do some more work on it soon hopefully.

One thing I didn't like seeing around all 8 of the injector holes have casting boogers that stick up, and make the upper shell not fit tight like everywhere else http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/DSC02936.jpg

and just removed the casting line on the running inlets, and redius them a little better blending out some bludges for bolt holes and such.

Huge pain getting the stock maff off the Lid, heat gun helped a tonhttp://www.nyspeed.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Got the 4inch 22* bellow off that link chris1312 (?) posted. after cutting down fits good. Just till I get inspected this month then going SD tune, this maf is a bitch without the screen and decell. Fast on the car.... some like it.. some don't. I like my old fast the best :secret2:

the dyno results of the LS6 (stock TB maff), BBK (85tb stock maff)and the fast (92tb 85maf).
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/studderin/LS1%20intakes/IMG_3495.jpg
I'm mixed on this. If I had a stock TB and a LS1 intake, I would buy a BBK for sure. Unless I found a LS6 intake cheap, like $250 that dosn't happen much. Most are $330-350. A BBK 85mm intake is only $399 at NewEra were I got mine. So thats a good deal if you have a LS1 intake still, its 5whp more then a LS6, that like 25% the power gain for not a lot more money.
And you can port them pretty easy, maybe even fit a used 90mm TB on them. But Ive found most 346s are fine with a 85MM TB. The BBK is really nice compared to that Professional Products intake, Ive worked with 2 of them, and there were both junk. That heat soak stuff is BS, after the dyno pull I could push my hand hard on the BBK and keep it there. Warm not hot, just the same as my LS6 gets. The heads were to hot to touch. Sitting in a parking lot in the sun running it will geat hot, but so dose the wheel wells and everything else from engine heat and no airfolw. The intake sits on the rubber Orings, its not bolted right to the motor touching with a paper gasket. The bolts carry some heat but this is a must.
If I had a LS6 intake and a ported stock TB I don't think I'd buy a BBK, but then agian it was amost have the gains of the fast over the really good LS6 intake with a 75mm TB. And I could, and I'm going to sell my LS6 for 330-350$ and my ported stock TB for $100.
The fast intake is a lot of money all setup on your car, I was hoping to make 420whp and was disappointed on the 415whp. But even Mike at new era said he sees a lot of cars that don't gain 13-15whp over a LS6, and with tuning only gaina 9-11 kinda sucks for the money. But its true if you have stock heads, and cubes. But I've seen cars gain 25-30 with smaller 370-383cube deals, and good heads, over the LS6. This was a lot of work and time, thanks to mike at newera for letting me use the dyno doing all this, and keeping all these parts around the shop. And neonGLH for helping me change all these parts late at night. I'm hoping to go 124-125 and a 10.99 is the better fall air.
