MAF and Intake Selection
I'm in the middle of a motor build. It's a 396 with LE Trickflows, intake and 244/252 .636/.636 110+4. Through a T56, I'm hoping for around 550rwhp. I'll also be running 24x setup and DBW monoblade tb.
Initially, I was going to be running a WS6 intake and the newer style stock replacement MAF (Delphi AF10056). But now I'm considering going LS lid, Chris1313, and 85mm MAF. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Will I see any gains?95 Cyber Grey Formula

I'd opt for a card MAF if you're already going 24x. One of the larger ID lids might suffice if you use a filter element that flows very well (like R2C, Spectre, etc), but it will be at the cost of more debris making it into your motor. The only way you're really going to know if there's any power left on the table is by watching the MAP drop at WOT.
Are you running a single plane? If so, which one?96Z M6, ERE-383 #60, AFR 210s, LE cam, 9", Procharger D1, ???whp

Actually, the MAF i'm going to be running is a card style. It just comes with an adapter harness and plastic tube. od should be 3.5 not sure what the id is but it looks bigger than the stock one

Is there any neckdown with the current card MAF? They make 100mm housings for them, or you could just have a bung welded onto a 4" pipe if it's straight enough.
I would definitely try to keep the cross section of the pre-tb intake larger than the tb cross section itself so there's absolutely no restriction before the motor. Not sure of the measurements on the monoblade, but some quick math tells me it should be very close to a 90mm LS style tb (this is assuming 58mm height, guesstimate of 60mm centers). 90mm ~ 3.55", so round up to 4" to account for any head loss.
I think the LT4 intake might hold you back. From what I remember about home porting mine, there's a pretty decent neckdown above the injector bosses (I think this is what they call the "ski slope"). I was pretty hesitant to take out too much material there as there's not a lot of meat in the casting to begin with. I've never measured a LE ported one, but I'd imagine its going to be narrower there than a single plane with a consistent port shape.
550whp is a pretty lofty goal. If the LE Trickflows are the 21* type, Karl did a similar stroker in 385ci (http://www.ellweinengines.com/ERE68/ERE68.htm). The dyno intake was a AI ported Vic Jr, SCR was only 11.4:1, and the lobes aren't very aggressive for valvetrain stability. I'm building something very similar, although with more aggressive lobes (XFI468 w/1.7's), SCR of ~12:1, and a World Motown EFI single plane. My guess is it'll be around 525whp (t56 car) tuned SD on the stock pcm.96Z M6, ERE-383 #60, AFR 210s, LE cam, 9", Procharger D1, ???whp

If there is any neckdown, its not even enough to be visible
Lloyd suggested the 23* Trickflows with 2.08 valves so that's what I went with. I'll also be running close to 12.5 compression.Last edited by ElkySS; 06-01-2021 at 07:44 AM.

Got my heads in. They look great. Unfortunately, my builder is still waiting on my Racetec pistons to show up so its still gonna be a little while.
After noticing how bigg of a difference there is in the size of bother filters, I think I'll stick with my WS6 intake for now. it's almost twice the size,95 Cyber Grey Formula
