Default 1996 RMW pcm calibration not supported by DST 14005 tuner

Just received the DST tuner and got a big surprise. All went OK to read the PCM, but when I go to use the tuning software it says the calibration is not supported. Jet says the same, so sad, too bad.

Are the GM PCMs locked or some other weirdness? People say that they tune these all the time, so makes no sense to me.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, I am very new to GM stuff so flying blind.

do you need to keep the car obd2? if not ditch the obd2 pcm, or put an impala pcm in it. i bricked 3 pcm's in my 96 impala ss with jet dst software. its garbage. all i was trying to do was change fan temps

I am going to intend to keep it OBD two. I had already ordered a Caprice PCM programmed to specific VIN on GM software so the DST would recognize it as Chevy, when I got a solution to problem with the help of some very, very, nice folks in the industry. Long story short is that there is now a Jet supplied update to the DST software that is flash drive installable. I can know read both the Caprice on and the original Buick so have a backup if needed.

The same folks that helped out mentioned that there had been some earlier updates that appeared to take care of the bricking issues, so you may want to check and see what is available for your version of the DST. A lot of the bricking was also due to communication issues for those using add on serial to USB adapters, it appears, and the newer DST like the one I got have USB built in and include the correct drivers that have run fine on Windows 10. I did do a test write on the Caprice pcm with some minor changes and it wrote just fine with no issues at all.

It looks like I should be good to go in the spring when I do the reprogramming after getting the new engine done over the winter. I have been going over all the screens and settings in the program for a while and it is starting to get pretty easy to find the stuff that I want to change and do it in the most efficient way.

my instance was as recent as 2014, and there was no support at the time. also had a usb to obd2 cable, not a serial adapter. glad you got it fixed. i dont have that car anymore. converted it to obd1 and had no more problems lol
