I have heard the same things, unfortunately when I had it tuned that was who I saw. I guess I will start with plugs, wires, coil and then last the opti. Was just trying to not throw parts and money at it.

If I unplug the crank sensor and it is not tuned out, will it throw codes or die or anything?

Crank sensor has NOTHING to do with running the engine. There is a code that sets for a disconnected crank sensor. But if the sensor is tuned out it probably isn’t going to set a code.
