Vss question
Tried a search and am.getting bits and peices of information.. My question is about a 94 formula drive train a 4. Swapped into 83 jag. I am.using scan 9495 and i have no codes, but if i click on the electric fault tab, it says vss circuit open. I also have no speedo, wires all checked good, so i am assuming that its simply a bad vss, however wondering if it shouldnt be setting a code... Also due to a massive steering rack. Leak i have the belt off so pump wont .make it shoot fluid all over my clean engine bay, i have car up.on jackstands and have put it in drive, and it seems like it's changing gears, might be in my head though, will gears still.change with a bad vss???
Thanks for any help.

In Scan9495 log, what readings appear in the VSS field (column M)? Are they always "0"?
There is DTC 24 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit
In order for the code to set:
- Trans output speed less than 250 RPM when engine speed is greater than 3,000 RPM
- not in Park/Neutral
- No DTC 21, 22, 28, 33, 34
- MAP greater than 20 kPa, but less than 99 kPa.
- All conditions met for 3 seconds
Action taken when code sets - PCM will default to:
- SES illuminates
- trans default to third gear
- high trans line pressure
There is DTC 72 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Loss (Automatic Transmission Only)
In order for the code to set:
- selector not in Park/Neutral
- trans output speed changes greater than 1,000 RPM (not sure what this means)
Or:
- selector in Park/Neutral
- trans output speed greater than 2,048 RPM
- No DTC 28
- Engine speed greater than 200 RPM
- All conditions met for 2 seconds
Action taken when code sets - PCM will default to:
- Delayed (soft) landing in third gear.
- DTC stored in memory, but does not turn on SES light
You may not be meeting the requirements for the codes to set.

Once again injuneer to my rescue....
Will have to look at my logs when i get home... if the problem is me not meeting the criteria do you think I will be ok to drive it around neighborhood, maybe 1/2 to my block. Without the belt on? Like a i said, massive power steering rack leak, which also means no alternator, battery is fully charged!
