    Default Race stars

    If you are thinking about buying race star skinnies for drag racing I thought I would throw this out there before you buy them thinking you are going to shed some weight off the front of your car.

    I weighed some of the various wheels that I have laying around for my formula and this is what I came up with.

    * Speedline 17x9 with 275/40/17 nitto nt05
    52 pounds.

    * Factory 5 spoke ABS wheels 16x8 with
    245/50/16 BFG g force sport comp 2.
    42 pounds.

    * Race star 17x4.5 with 26x6x17 mickey thompson sportsman sr radials.
    42 pounds.

    The race star skinnies weigh the same as factory wheels. I'm sure there would be an advantage with the race stars with less rolling resistance being they are half the width of the factory wheel but I was shocked to find they weigh the same.

    That's the drawback of 17" wheels + street tires.

    Front - Weld Pro-Star 15x3.5 (not for street use) w/ a Moroso DS-2 15x3.5-15 = 23#

    Rear - Weld Pro-Star 15x10 w/ Hoosier QTP 28x11.5-15 (no tube) = 40#

    Regrettably I never weighed them but I know just from handling them so many times that the weld rts that I used to have even with nexen street radials were way lighter.
