Looking better already. Call me crazy but I like the flat black wrap. It's got potential. But I'm partial to this also:

I figured I didn't have anything to lose buying a vented version of the early spline drive unit. So far "knock on wood" it's worked fine.
I've had another experience with them, when I bought my '97 it already had a MSD opti. The previous owner gave me a folder full of info on the car and I found that the MSD opti that was in it had the rotor fall off sometime in the early 2000's. The repair ticket said the nechanic just put the rotor back on and all was well. While I was doing a head job on it I decided to replace it. I contacted MSD and told them I had paperwork proving that I had one of their problem units from around 2001. They told me to send it and they would rebuild for $130 even though it was well out of warranty. To my surprise they sent me back a brand new opti which is working flawless "knock on wood". I think that they may have all the problems resolved now, it has been nearly 20 yrs ago when they had all the issues. But I do understand many still have a bad taste in their mouth about the MSD opti.
Funny story, my msd worked fine, was from the early 2000's, sent it for a rebuild for 130 bux for bearing play, they sent back what looked like a "new" one, wasnt the same one i sent them, and it had nothing but issues.
