Tonys Z rebuild thread
Well...........I have a new project. A buddy of mine brought his car to me a few weeks ago, after hearing a loud bang from the engine. After pulling the 383 out, tearing it down, I found #3 rod had broken. Amazingly, the block hadnt sustained any major damage. Besides the #3 intake valve slightly bent, no damage to the AFR 195s. Currently the block, heads and internals are at my machinist being prepped for a rebuild.
Current setup
95Z28
2 bolt block
Scat 9000 3.75
Scat 6 rods
Icon forged .040 over
Comp Cams XFI280
AFR 195 1039 heads comp ported
Edelbrock LT4 red intake manifold
58mm TB
24x Torqhead swap
Pacesetter LTs 3 magnaflow exhaust
T56 3.73 out back
Last Dyno put down 414rwhp 397rwtq
After building the bottom end a little stronger, Ill be making slight mods to up the power. Ill keep you guys updated.Last edited by Sergiodpk; 03-06-2019 at 09:57 PM.

Combination of things
-cheap rods not rated for the amount of power output
-uneven cylinder boring from previous machinist
-Detonation cuz small cam=high dynamic compression combined with aggressive timing running crap Cali 91 octane
-also the exhaust was built really bad...the Y necks down to 2 1/2 engine struggling to breath
