    Default Crank key

Was curious if anyone knows if there are any "performance" or forged crank keys or woodruff key as they are called

I always just get one from the local ace hardware that's hardened

In general, and not always, the key is meant to be the fuse. Bad things usually happen when you bypass those sort of things.

Unfortunately, with the addition of an aftermarket harmonic damper, plus a beefy S/C drive, the damper hub can be what fractures, not the key. The solution I have seen is to add a second key 180-deg away. I have seen a couple ATI damper hubs fail due to this. They may have beefed up the design in the intervening years, I'm not sure. In one case, the second keyway was cut in the crank with the crank still in the engine. Have no idea how they did it.
