When is roll bar needed
New here but long time reader ( headed to into as soon as this is done). But I'm thinking of trying my hand at the ltx shootout at what point do I need a roll bar or cage. Everything I find is older and want to make sure I'm up to date. Thinking of trying street stock. Thanks everybody.

IIRC 11.50 and quicker calls for a cage....
wouldn't hurt to call the track and ask if in doubt

NHRA - Under 11.50 requires a 5-point roll bar. Under 10.00 or over 135 MPH requires an NHRA certified full cage. Converts require roll bar under 13.50.

NHRA requirements for "roll bar". This is from the 2016 rule book, haven't checked 2017.
[EDIT]Just checked - 2017 rule book is the same.Last edited by Injuneer; 05-01-2017 at 12:22 PM.

so I wonder if this is why the Dodge Demon is BANNED from NHRA?
Sorry to get off topic...

^ Correct along with other safety requirements that were not met. it wasn't the car is to fast for the NHRA its because its to unsafe. anything over 10.00 on new factory production cars doesn't need any upgrades (which is bullshit IMO)

Once you go under 10.0 driver needs an NHRA competition license, cage has to be inspected and certified (tagged) by an NHRA inspector, master electrical cutoff, neck collar, SFI-rated roll bar padding, chute (over 150 mph), upgraded fire suit including jacket, pants and gloves, SFI flexplate w/ SFI shield, window net.
There's a lot of stuff that kicks in below 11.5 that seem to be hit or miss as far as enforcement - SFI bellhousing, 5-pt harness, DS loop, SFI flywheel and clutch.
Under 11.0 - SFI trans shield, locking trans dipstick, aftermarket rear axles, SFI harmonic balancer.
And as noted in post immediately above, pure stock requires very little above 10.0
All the above is from the NHRA ET Quick Reference Chart & SFI Expirations. For helmets, Snell SFI 2005 expired at the end of 2016. Now must be 2010 or 2015.
All SFI-rated components have a limited service life, anywhere from two to five years, and must be replaced or recertified by the manufacturer.Last edited by Injuneer; 05-01-2017 at 04:29 PM.

So it looks like to don't need any kind of cage or bar for street stock. Thanks everybody much appreciated
