guessing cheap optical sensors that get stupid when heat soaked. if I had a bench harness I'd run the opti with a drill while using a heat gun to heat it up and see if it does it.

Seems to me the problem might be related to a change in the optical module specs or sourcing in the past 2 years. Or there is some sort of high voltage interference with the module, due to a change in the materials in the body.... maybe the dielectric epoxy on the cap. The problem is popping up enough now that other people are reading their own data logs and finding the erratic signals. It was never an issue in the past, at least not on this scale.

I agree, I even had a parts store opti last me nearly 30k miles that I bought 10 years ago. I now run a GM base with a Mitsubishi sensor, and I'd really like to source an extra (probably from the junkyard) for the future.

I also had erratic RPM spikes with a brand new MSD Opti on my vehicle when I bought it. Replaced it with a Skip White opti and ran fine. Will be switching to a OEM opti once new engine goes in.

What was the problem with the Accel Opti? Or was there

It's not how fast you mow. It's how you mow fast.

No feedback at all from MSD. Disappointing. Kinda thought we were doing them a favor by returning the defective unit, and the data logs showing the problem. Guess not.

Maybe they are still working on it.
