Looking at the back of the lamp, it has to have a solenoid back there otherwise it would have a much smaller base. I bet those extra wires control the solenoid moving the HID lamp forward and back. You can check this by running power/ground to that connector. You can use a 9V battery if you need to do this quick/dirty. You should hear a click and the lamp should move in and out. No sense throwing it away if it actually works. The best kits on the market would be this. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/hid...l#.VbaGOVVVhBc

Notice the lamps with the solenoid on the back end.

I'll be sure to try that. I know that the bulbs are not moving in/out when the switch is hit now. I watched them while someone else toggled the dimmer switch and there's no movement at all. Hopefully it'll just be a wiring issue.

Ok I used a 9v battery and used leads into the connector on the drivers side. When I touch the poles, I hear a click. Upon further investigation, the drivers side bulb is not moving at all. The passengers side bulb does move however. I also used a test light, grounded on the frame, and put the end into the ballast side connector. When the dimmer switch is toggled to hi, the light comes on, proving it's seeing current. So is it fair to conclude that the solenoid is bad?

If you hear a click, the solenoid sounds like it's functioning. The part that connects the lamp and solenoid could have broken though. Or the solenoid is jammed up.

I put my ear to the drivers side one. No click. The passenger side one is clicking and moving. The drivers side does nothing. Sorry, I should've been clearer.

I'm guessing that I should just replace both bulb/solenoid assemblies, assuming I can find the correct ones. Then, if that doesn't solve it, I have no idea what to test at that point lol.

No worries and yea, no click, she dead. The lamp connectors are not a big deal as all aftermarket units use amp connectors. The solenoid wires would just need to be connected any way reasonable.

Also, not sure if you checked but make sure you get power and ground from the drivers side solenoid harness.

I'm getting power from the harness. Forgot to check ground. I'll check it tomorrow. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and dealing with my electrical ignorance. Learning as I go!
