Working out another deal with a detail customer to help me get some wrench work done on the T/A. I took the weekend off to do Halloween things with my 6 month old, and figured I'd toss the car on the lift and make a list. Not THAT big of a list to get it up and moving around the driveway.

Also, I wanted to try out my new Milwaukee mid-torque 1/2" impact. Ripped these lugs off without effort. I haven't tried it on my Escalade or anything with more torque, but so far I'm real impressed. Anyway, enough about the impact. My Z06 came with a spare set of wheels. Not 100% sure if these are the original wheels or not, leaning towards not as I thought the 09 Z06's had "Spyder" wheels. Maybe someone can chime in on that. I think they were painted to match the car and I have a spare rear wheel which is cool. Anyway, these cup wheels are sitting around collecting dust, so I threw them on the T/A. My first thought was "wow, look how TINY the stock brakes are!" My second thought was "Oh those rears aren't going to work." Maybe with a spacer, but they already poke out pretty far. Maybe if I get the ambition to get the BFH out, I can do some massaging and figure it out. It is low hanging fruit though. On to more important things!
The tires are 325's in the back, also. They look good, but not going to work. The 10 year old Nitto DRs will have to work for the time being. And those dry rotted POS fronts that go flat every 24 hours haha.

I think you're on to something. They're definitely called cup wheels, not Spyders. Spyders have spokes that "poke out" of the lip. I realize that makes no sense, but they're slightly different. I assume the wheels I have came on a GS though since they're widebody fitment. Although, who knows, they could most certainly be reps. All I know is it'll take a lot of massaging to make them work and I'm not in love with them enough right now. It would be nice not having to air up the tires every time I work on it, though!

Hard to find a photo of a real Z06 Spyder wheel, but those look slightly different. Great looking wheels though!
Interesting Corvette wheel guide:
https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/19...els-1997-2020/
The optional 2009-'11 10-spoke chrome Spider wheel showed up as part of the Crystal Red 2008 427 Limited Edition Z06. The following year the wheels were available chromed ($1,995) or painted Competition Gray ($395). Front and rear sizes were the same as the standard Z06.
One thing I learned was how badly people could mange to screw up wheel studs/nuts with an air powered impact wrench. Today, as an anal engineer, with a decent battery powered impact wrench, I always use a dedicated torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts.

That article is interesting indeed!
For 2012-'13, 10-spoke Cup wheels were added to the Z07 package and were part of the 2012 Z06 and ZR1 Centennial Package, painted black with a thin red stripe on the wheel bead. Optional was the Machine Face Cup Wheel for the Z06 and ZR1 ($995) in 2012 and 2013.
These should look familiar. The C6 Cup-style wheels were part of the standard C7 Grand Sport package. This wheel was available in five finishes: standard painted Pearl Nickel, painted black ($495), painted black with a red stripe on the wheel bead ($1,495), Machine Faced ($1,495), and Chrome ($1,995). The wheel and tire combo is the same size as the Z06: 19x10 front and 20x12 rear wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP Summer Only 285/35ZR19 and 335/25ZR20 tires, respectively.
As for the impact, I never gave torquing lugs much thought until a few years ago. I always torqued wheels by hand with a 4-way lug wrench in the past. When I got my ZL1 a few years ago and read up on someone else's new ZL1 coming with a few loose lugs (they required 140ft lbs for anyone interested) and causing a vibration, I got a digital torque wrench and a set of good lug sockets. I've used that torque wrench on tons of stuff since then, so it was well worth the investment. The Milwaukee replaced an old Kobalt air impact which died recently. RIP. Lugs go on with the lowest setting and torqued properly including customer cars.
Edit - the rears I have are 325/30/19 lol, so they did not come off a C7 or C6Z.Last edited by harner; 11-02-2021 at 07:44 AM.

I didn't disclose this, but the car didn't want to start when I was monkeying around with the wheels. The starter didn't even want to engage. I left my multimeter at the house and wanted to check the voltage. So yesterday I go down to the house, check the battery tender which says it's still fully charged. Forgot the multimeter lol. Decided to try the key and it fired right up! It never just started right up and idled. It was a rough idle, but for a basically untuned/big cam car, it sat there and chopped away. Once I blipped the throttle it smoothed out. Then after a few minutes of running, my new flex hose decided to show why it was so cheap on ebay. UGH! Anyway, enjoy the video
ZR1 wheels back on, tires aired up, and it's off the lift for now.
