reviving an old post.
Did you ever get these wheels?
I am thinking about getting these for my Trans Am, but I was thinking 17x9.5 in front and 17x11 out back

looks SICK
what kind of offset did you go with? +50?
what tires are those?
I was looking at it seems like a Trans Am can get away with 17x11s down to +36mm offset, but I wonder if that means you can go that far back with an 18x11
I took a quick look at Summit and they have +41, +43, +56 in the 18x1197 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,
68 Firebird 400, YC 400, 670 heads M4

thanks! and yes, +50 offset. running 295/35 nitto NT05's.
I would say yes that makes sense, but I am not an offset guru so take that as you may lol I know there are a couple guys running 18x10f and 18x11r RTS's on Camaro's on ls1tech, not sure what offset they are using though

I run 17x11 50mm offset on my Formula. The outer edge of the 315 tire is just under the edge of the rear fender when looking straight down from above. That's with ~8.0" backspace and ~4.0" front space. Using a 36mm offset with an 11" wide wheel puts the edge of the tire ~0.58" outside the edge of the fender. I have never seen any difference in the width of the rear fenders on any 4th Gen.... Any year, base model, Formula, or Trans Am. I've been helping 4th Gen owners with wheel and tire issues for almost 20 years.
For a 11" wide wheel, the front space (projection of the outer edge of the rim from the face of the mounting hub) will be:
offset vs frontspace
41mm = 4.39"
43mm = 4.31"
56mm = 3.80" (may have backspace issue - rubbing)
Anything above 4" pushes the edge of the tire outside the fender, anything under 4" pushes the edge of the tire deeper into the wheel well.
Doesn't matter if you are using 17" or 18" wheels... Does not affect offset/front space. Ditto with "filling the wheel well". If you use the correct tire size the outside diameter of the tire will be in the range of 25.7 to 26.1", meaning if there is more wheel diameter, there is less sidewall. You could use a larger diameter tire, but then you have to correct the speedo.Last edited by Injuneer; 08-11-2016 at 02:46 PM.

Thanks for the clarification, as far as quarter panels I meant Camaro vs Firebird/TA. Not sure how true it is, but I hear the Firebird has wider fenders.
Im not exactly following the front space concept, offset is the centerline of the wheel to the mounting face right?
so from your 4" front space
4" which equals an offset of 1.5"=38.1mm
are you talking about the very edge of the lip?
Can you post a pic of your 17x11 with a 50mm?
I want what you are describing, I DONT want the tire to stick out from under the fender, I want it flush or a little under.
roughly like this:
97 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,
68 Firebird 400, YC 400, 670 heads M4
14 Fiat 500e, 83kW motor, 24kWh 364 V battery

An 11" wide wheel is 12" wide. 11" is the width where the tire beads sit. Add to that the ~1/2" lip/flange that holds the bead on the rim on either side, and you get 12". The 1/2" flange is not always exactly 1/2", depends on the design of the wheel. My AFS Grand Sport replica has a flange that is 0.46".
Add 2 flanges to the 11" bead width and you get 11.00 + 0.46 + 0.46 = 11.92"
Dividing by 2 puts the centerline of the wheel at 5.96"
The offset is 50mm = 1.97" (to 3 significant figures).
Add 5.96" + 1.97" = 7.93" backspace (matches manufacturers published #)
Subtract 5.96" - 1.97" = 3.99" front space (I don't know if that's the official term, but to me it's convenient)
I have a couple pictures I can add, but they're on my PC and I can't access that right now.
A buddy of mine had a 1997 Camaro 30th SS convertible. He had a set of the real 17x11 Grand Sport wheels, painted white (a real GS wheel is painted gloss black). As best I can remember, his setup tucked in just under the fender edge, just like mine. I think the 37mm difference was based on information from the AFS website. They indicated the 50mm was required for the Camaro and 37mm would work on the T/A. I have a link to a photo of a T/A with American Racing 17x11 45mm wheels, and it looks like it is within 1/4" of mine. The AFS info was wrong. Just like their statement that the 17" wheels could not be used on convertibles. They fit fine, handled fine. AFS was just assuming from the fact that GM would not put 17" wheels on the SS or WS6 convertibles that they wouldn't work. My thinking was GM felt the narrower sidewall on the 275/40-17 would produce a harsher ride.SOLD - GONE TO A (VERY) GOOD HOME ! - 94 Formula A3+1: 381ci forged stroker - Callies Stealth, Oliver 5.85 billet rods, BME nitrous pistons / CNC LT4 heads / CC solid roller / TH400+GearVendors OD / 4.11 Strange 12-bolt / 300-shot N2O / Spohn Suspension / roll bar / MoTeC M48 Pro engine management system /a few other odds 'n ends.
