Clear birdy tail lights.
Ok so ive had a lot of people ask me about my clear tail lights and i figured maybe someone else would like to try or be interested in em. No one ever made aftermarket tail lights for the 93-02 firebird and it sucks for those of us that want to look different. So i started ripping tail lights apart to make my own. I have a white car so clear with colored bulbs look pretty badass. Now here the bad part.... the only lights you can do this too are 93-97 LT1 lights. The honey combs on the 98-02 models are solid red plastic with the black outline made into the lens. The LT1 lights are clear lenses with the black slats and the red and clear for reverse are actually seperate lenses inside the housing.
Now ive seen people use an oven for this set at 325° and put the lights in for 28 min. Ive never needed an oven because after 20 some years the glue isnt that strong. I use a body panel tool and pry between the 2 peices while i pop the retainer clips.
Be very nice and take your time. Rushing here will only result in cracks or delamination. And you will be looking for another light. (Not an easy or cheap fix) Once you get it apart you will have 2 pieces.
You can now pull out the 2 lenses. Ive seen em with the reverse lense still in but thats completly up to you. If your chrome looks beat now is a good time to repaint. I use rustoleum chrome paint. Works pretty good. Then its time to put em back together.
After you clean all the old glue out of the seem you can use your choice of silicone to seal em back up. I used ultra black and everything looks factory around the seam.
And this is the finished product. I ordered colored led bulbs instead of painting stock bulbs. Im still waiting on ebay for everything and once i have it all installed i will post bew pics. Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to ask.
Ps. If your light does delaminate i have a guy that sells reverse decals for the lt1 lights. You put the decal on and spray it with nightshade and peel the decal off. And the light will look brand new and will never delaminate again.
