    Default LT5 Internals?

Ive always had a thing for the C4s, and recently I started thinking that maybe after the wedding I would do a C4 ZR1, rather than the C7 (cost effective, after a soon to be VERY expensive wedding).

But I love boost, so I was wondering, before I research, does anyone know...are the internals on the C4 ZR1 capable of boost (I know anything is as long as tuned properly, but I mean to the extent of forged internals)?

Let me know what you know.

The lt5 has forged crank and rods from what I've read. There are still a few companies that build these engines. Found one that can punch it out to 450 c.i.d.!
94 Trans am. Built 383/T56(437/409) Wilwoods, tubular suspension, QA1/BMR, Watts Link. Stripped down and set to kill!

Twin Tubo build underway. !GOING AFTER LTX STANDING MILE RECORD!

Good yo know. always loved the fat ass on them. Figured susp and a procharger could make a stock one real nasty...amd very driveable. And for 20k with low miles...They are rare..amd yet very attainable.

    LTXtech.com is my drug.

Parts are VERY rare and expensive. If you're counting costs go with the c7 because a boosted LT5 (while very very awesome and my dream also) will break parts here and there. The question is are you willing to spend $2500-$3500 on a set of heads when one or 2 of the 32 little problems we call valves drops into a cylinder and destroys a couple combustion chambers? That would make even baby Jesus cry.

I dont mind putting the money into my toys. So the cost of mods or repairs on something like this do not scare me. Hell I have over 35k into a 1996 camaro, lol.

The LT5 was contracted and built by Mercury Marine engines. I saw one at SEMA that looked identical to the LT5 with Mercury's name on it so I'm sure they probably still make some kind of parts for them.

They also share a lot with the northstars also. Lingenfelter did a twin turbo LT5, don't recall the numbers, but it was a sick looking set up

Yes, parts can be expensive and you can't get everything locally.

However, there is a very good network of ZR1 owners online who support each other any way they can, from finding deals on parts to sharing of technical and wrenching knowledge and helping each other solve problems.

If I personally was going to build a truly nasty LT5, boost probably wouldn't be a part of the equation for the simple reason that the platform has a lot of N/A potential, a lot more than almost anything else from the 1990s. IIRC built LT5s (I think there were several vendors getting 415-ish ci) were producing in excess of 600 flywheel even back then.

If you want to do a C4 with boost your easiest and best fix would probably be to start with a LT1 or LT4 car. Clean LT4 Corvettes can be had for very reasonable prices these days. I've toyed with the idea of picking one up, but when I remember the occasion I test drove a C6 Z06 I suddenly get realistic about what I'd really want. I already have a good running LTx ride, lol...
