Supporting MemberHoly shit roller coaster of a day. long post alert.
last night car started overheating 2 mins after idling. guess the brand new 6 month old rad cap quit. @Ltconvert changed that before putting it on trailer.
first pass off the trailer was 10.94 at 128mph, 21psi in the et street r's. second pass was quicker at 10.88 same everything. third pass 10.94 same everything. shifting at 5700rpm. we are new to drag racing, i am new to it as a driver, not gonna lie. since everything was going the right direction we decided to put the tune on kill and see what happens.
I proceeded to raise shift points to 6500rpm, limiter to 7k, figuring everything is running right and the msd box seems to be doing the trick. proceeded to run 11.2x with the car breaking up right at the shift 1-2 and 2-3.
immediately came back to pits and reflashed with a 6000rpm shift point tune, same everything else, and go back to 10.92 no spark blowout/breaking up shit. reviewed datalog and car is shifting 250rpm after commanded shift point, which imho a built cahall 4l60e is doing its job correctly with 11-12psi of boost and a heavy car hitting it.
made another 10.92 pass and hotlapped it back. tried to leave harder and went fastest at 10.87 proceeding to blow the passenger side header gasket at cylinders 2 and 4.
The car surprised the shit out of me and osie today. i really didnt realize how fast it is. i know 10.87 at 126mph may not seem all that quick, but for us, it means alot after all this thing (and the multiple other lt1's ive built) have put us thru.
After reviewing the datalogs, i am seeing pcm showing battery voltage dropping significantly from 13.2v to 11.5v by end of run. this car always always since way back in the heads cam days of 2013 ran 13.2ish volts on the pcm logs. alternator has been changed multiple times (even to a 200amp), heavy duty battery cables installed, extra grounds, pcm, list goes on. I am thinking this voltage drop is causing the spark issues we are having, because even with the msd box it doesnt have enough, it just moved up in the rpm range.
I want to thank everyone on this forum for all the help over the years getting it where it is. now we got the bug and we wanna go faster. great event today @blackbirdws6. great seeing everyone. i need a beer.
Ill post the vid links in a separate post.
