    I will admit I haven't read every word of this detailed topic, but I think there is one very simple Opti test that hasn't been mentioned: Watch the tach while cranking. The tach's needle should jump up slightly to match the cranking speed of 150-300 RPM depending on the battery and starter. That small jump indicates that the Opti is not dead and is delivering the low-resolution signal to the PCM. Only the low-resolution signal is need to run the engine.
