STAR SMOG, eek
Ok, so now what? All of us lt1 guys now have to get smogs done at Star smog shops only? I have to get a smog on January 2nd. So now what can we do? I hear the checks will be way more through, like a state ref.
On the flip side, I can't get rid of my damn egr valve code. My check engine light is on and is going to cause me to fail. I can't get the damned thing fixed. I already tried taking it off and cleaning it but it sill throws the code? WTF I need some help and fast! Otherwise I am going to fail my next smog check for sure and I don't want to pay some dumb ass at a smog check/repair station $300 to do what I already have to "fix" the "problem" just to have the light come back on. Will some kind of tune fix it?
Also, are 24x conversions smog legal??? LOL My car is so going to fail. I bet the smog tech is going to be scratching his damn head when he opens my hood. I don't even have the stock radiator cover so the emissions sticker is not there at all. I am planing on running the ls1 lid, but for now its just a custom cai with a cone filter. I can not believe a "carb" number is needed for a FILTER?! Seriously?!
Anyway, it's looking like I am going to either have to take my Camaro off the road or pay a lousy mechanic to put back to stock."I don't get it. I'm not exactly deaf and I've never given tire noise a second thought. So, I think the people that complain about them are: a) Suffering from hyperacusis b) Candy asses c) Still waiting to have their mufflers changed to the "real man" version" - HAHAHAHAHA quote from vmptuning on fordgt500.com

You could do what I have and get your car registered in a county that does not need the smog checks done every 2 years.
I do know that if your car fails then so long as you pay for the tags they will give you a temp sticker for 90 days so at least you will have more time.If you don't stand behind our MIlitary then feel free to stand in front of them. <---- This is my oldest son (PROUD DAD HERE) Mike (just plain mad) Madman337 1993 Camaro Z/28 A4 all stock other than a muffler and LCAs @292K+ miles. 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche. 1970 Pontiac Firebird. 1972 Camaro, 1994 Corvette, 17 Fusion Sport AWD V6 Twin Turbo

What is this about star smog testing? Has there been a change? Wish I could help you with the EGR issues. I think it can be tuned out, but it is really up to you whether the cost is worth it or if it would be better to fix it altogether.
I have been worried about my car failing every time I take it in. Most times I barely squeak by. The one time I did fail, I did a quick tune up in my garage and changed the cat which did the trick. Damn CA legal cat is so expensive. Tried to get away with a 49 state legal, but they didn't buy it. They made me remove my e-cutout too (even though it was capped off). I am running every bolt-on known -- in addition to an LS1 lid and fabbed radiator shroud. Haven't had a problem in the past. However, I removed all of the emissions / CARB stickers and added them to the back of my owners manual so I can show them that at least. I did have to look around for a smog shop that would work with me a bit. The guys here don't sweat all of the CARB numbers. If I take it anywhere else...they are confused. Considering we are EVAP exempt, it just ads to their confusion while they scramble around to find it. My car has been out of commission for a couple years and I am rebuilding the top end (H/C/I). Doing my best to keep it smog legal but I honestly have no idea if it'll pass. Spent more time and money trying to abide than the car is worth. If it fails...I'm throwing up my hands and building it the way I should have to begin with. I sincerely dislike the smog laws in this state.

So glad I don't have to deal with that bs. They need an enthusiast tag that exempts you from that crap.

Most of the modified cars out there are tuned better and kept running better than the majority of "stock" vehicles out there but here in the soviet socialist republic of California they dont really care about what the right thing is they only care about their own agendas and getting reelected ect and to have common sense regulations are about as foreign an idea to them as me asking you to count to infinity.
