85 Monte Carlo SS build
So here it is... the recipient the day I brought it home...
It's a 1985 Monte Carlo SS. I got it with a 350/350 turbo in it. I swapped in a 200-4R because the 350 turbo was slipping and I used it as a DD for about 6 months. Plus its what originally came in it so I felt it added a little nostalgia. I've always collected LT1 parts and cars and feel most comfortable with the platform so I decided to start planning for a transplant. Over the last few months I've hunted down some great deals on parts to use for the build. So far I've got:
Plain jane LT1 block (to be machined)
Eagle 4340 forged 3.48 stroke crank
Scat 4340 H beams
ARP 2 bolt main stud kit
Mezziere EWP
MSD opti
Vision power core 10.2mm plug wires
CC306 cam
ARP 7/16" rocker studs
GMPP guideplates
Arp head studs
Comp pro mag rockers
M122 from a 2010 gt500
Wiring harness and ecm from 95 firebird
And several other stock parts from various engines
Still need for engine:
Forged pistons (had a good deal on a set but they turned out to be junk)
Rings, bearings, gaskets.
Port work on heads
Hardened pushrods
60# injectors
400lph fuel pump
LS7 lifters
I'm hoping to have 550-600 HP at the rear wheels through a built 200-4R and 9"
The car will see zero track time except for the shootout, but just for kicks. I'm looking for a street car that can be driven daily if needed but still hold its own.
I've already purchased the paint and materials for the body work. The car will be this color...
Black metallic firemist
Id like to retain the stock wheels, at least for now.
So today the build technically started. I've got a 1970 4 door nova that's getting the 350 from the monte.
So while I had the engine bay open, I thought I would try out the por15 I bought for the monte.
Turned out pretty good but I made a god-awful mess. My paint gun didn't get cleaned well enough last time I used it and the fluid needle stuck open, pouring paint everywhere. While I made a hasty attempt to clean the gun I got por15 all over my hands. It will not come off!
With the nova engine out I pulled the monte in to start pulling the engine and trans.
Got the trans out tonight. Tomorrow I will get the engine pulled and put in the nova. The guy buying it is looking forward to it early this week so its gotta get done tomorrow. Then I can continue the work on the monte. Going to por15 the engine bay and underside first then start on the body while the engine comes together.

I will be watching this one for sure, for some reason i have always liked these cars but if i built one it would be alot different. I would do a built 454 BBC, Roots style blower, glide and a 9 inch.

Yes. I missed out on the $600 p600 procharger and got outbid $50 on an f1x this morning (sold for $1300!). I'm considering having someone spec a turbo cam and going that route at this time. Getting a bargain on an sc setup is getting tough to come by and I can do my own welding and fab work on the turbo setup and end up with a new turbo for about the same cost as a used sc head unit. I guess it would be less of a gamble that way. Not sure if one would be better than another in a big mcss

I know a guy local to me is selling his home made LT1 turbo hot side for something like $400, it uses the stock manifolds.
But i know what you mean about finding a good deal on a SC set up, i can get my hands on a full F1A kit with upgraded intercooler etc and never ran for 5K but need to sell my turbo kit to buy it first.2008 Corvette-full exhaust, tune and soon a custom cam

I should have bid more on the f1x but it was being sold as is so....
I think I figured it up once that I could to a turbo setup using stock manifolds for around $500 which would include a cheap eBay intercooler and cold side piping. Then I would just need a turbo, bov, and wastegate. The only downside to this is I would have to ditch the cc306. Most guys have said ditch it anyways but I've had a few in the past (n/a) and have always liked and had good luck with them.Chris

Honestly i have ran that cam and loved it! I ran stock ported heads, 52mm, long tubes, geared and stalled and she ran HARD N/A and on spray. I wasn't to happy with the CC305 and never got my car to run like it should with my LE custom grind but it wanted to run bad.
Doesnt SRZ run a CC306 with boost and made a ton of power?2008 Corvette-full exhaust, tune and soon a custom cam

I've been eyeing the roots style blowers too. I believe I could make an intake work. I considered having the top milled off a stock lt1 intake and welding whatever it would take to make it bolt up to it. Then welding the front tb area up. I'm just afraid it would be 4 feet tall by the time its done! Plus I've read they are not very efficient compared to the centrifugals. Would definitely be cool though
