Heads WILL make a difference. But you can make good power unported even, just have to shove more boost through it. I'm a FIRM believer in having the heads ported though, easier on the motor as a whole because there's less boost being pushed through it.

Well then, for the money, I guess it makes sense to up the cubes to 383. Id be thrilled for 500 at the wheels. Now I need to go reconsider all those 383 rotating assemblies...

Haven't decided yet. Id like to do a turbo. Plenty of room to jam 1 or 2 in the dance floor of an engine bay

you can make quite a bit of power with the stock heads. With boost you dont need huge cam and heads to make the power. Granted there are limits to the head, but no need to go 227's either unless an all out drag car. Not saying you can run them being boost will mask up the doggy bottom of having huge heads compared to NA setup. If I have TPIS/AFR 187's on now and from what I made 12 psi with stock heads I now make 3 psi. Same volume less pressure as they were saying.
97 Comp T/A #161 out of 164 LT1 383 stroker, TPIS/AFR heads, JE pistons, 9.3cr, extreme energy comp cams 224/230, Howards billet rods 5.85, Callies dragon slayer crank, 2 bolt mains converted to 4 bolt billet, Mildon oil pump, MSD opti, 6AL, boost retard, HVC 2 blaster coil, BBk 58mm, 50lb injectors, 3200 stall. Took 600b off to help fund twin turbo.

Its true... u dont need huge heads. Ive always been one to buy larger clothes so they last longer and i can grow into them eventually.
