Cool thread.
Been back on the gym for three weeks. Most of my life I was an after work workout-er. But for whatever reason, in my old age, I've switched to mornings.
So it's up at 5:00… drive the Z to the Gym. 20-30 minutes on the treadmill, walking at >3, elevation changes with the mood. Then, for the moment, I hit the circuit cable machines. Just getting in sufficient shape to start actually working out again.
I cycle, daily, between chest, arms and back, but sometimes mix them up. Right now it's low weight with moderate to high reps. First set is 20 reps on the second bar, then it's 16 on the third bar, final set is 12 or max out on the fourth bar. Next week, I'll start on the third bar and work my way up until the last set is always max out. I get in four machines by 6:30, when I need to bug to get home to make some coffee and light up a smoke. (I know… so spare me. I'm workin' on it, it's a process.)
The only thing that I see wrong with it, is that I'm the hottest thing in the gym. And that is a freakin' CRIME!
I was in the Fiber game for a decade and worked out every day for most of that decade. It was a gypsie lifestyle, having to go to wherever the work was, so I was always alone, except for my trusty companion "Lance", a skinny little Labrador Retriever who tagged along with me, pretty much everywhere I went. So after the bar scene played out, I decided to get back into shape one saturday afternoon, when a Bally's commercial came on, which was touting 19.95/mo.
I was on a job up in Michigan, and the closest gym was 45 minutes from the barn. (Literally… the barn. I lived in the loft of a barn.) But, my contract was down in Detroit, the Barn was in Davidson, outside of Flint an hour and a half north of the job, so on my way home, I had to drive right past the gym.
Bally's was a sweet gym… TONS of trim to keep ya entertained. I'd do a set, then make my way past the "Bootitorium" (the cardio area where the Booty worked out in all of their spandex splendor) to the water fountain. At first the sessions lasted an hour, but years later, I couldn't get out of the gym in less then 2-1/2 - 3 hours.
The kid looked mighty sharp.
I suppose my peak was years later, when I walked into the Honda Shop in Phoenix, looking for a spark plug for my generator. The two guys at the counter were discussing the Rider who the shop was sponsoring and I was taking in the scene… becoming fascinated with a brand new 250 ( I rode moto-X for most of my young life and was mesmerized by the smell and feel of the familiar place… ) Anywho… once I had worked out the projected conversation with Mrs. OVA when I pulled that bike out of my truck and due to the nature of how that would work out, I was again firmly affixed back in reality, I headed for the counter, when one of the guys said: "If he expects to win, he's got to find some discipline… he should look like THAT GUY!" and points a finger in my direction… I, of course, immediately turned around to see who he was pointing at… and was quite pleased to see that I was the only other guy in the shop. They then referred to me as "Mr. Clean", which was due to my shaved head and powerful, masculine build… .
So, I want that back and, apparently sleeping in and sitting on my ass all day, isn't going to make that happen… So I have taken it back to the lab, to see what we can do with this mess.
FTR: I'm 5' 11" and back then, I started at 215 lbs, 38" waist… and by the time I played out I was a 31" waste, 178lbs. 20" guns and built like a brick crapper.
Today, I have worked my way into a 40" waist, 38 if the taylor knows what he is doing… and the old lady doesn't shrink the dam' things. But I've managed to get all of that into 212lbs. (Efficiency of age I expect.)
I'll keep ya posted… But I am already seeing some excellent results and am psyched to see me return. If I could just get my HAIR to return… THAT would be great.
Day 1 of forcing myself to work out again. Really going to try to stick to it this time. Currently 5'9" and about 176 lbs. with a 33-34" waist. Goal is to get back down to 165 lbs. and 31" waist at 6% body fat like I had before I got a desk job. Really motivating to see this many people getting back into it.
Oh, and my stomach hurts and my arms and legs feel like jelly at the moment.
first week of Insanity done, and i feel like i was kicked off a cliff then run over by a dump truck!
IDK if I ever set a goal.... I took off this week from working out because of school...but monday I will be back at it.
My goal is to get BIG again.... I miss it (my joints dont), but I miss my size!
