this would be an impressive swap but you would have to spend another 10k I'd guess on top of buying this to get it up and running well.
Just posted a full chasis and drive line on our fb page... 20k ebay...
Just had a guy from Denmark join Firebird Nation. He claims he has ordered a Gen 5 LT4 (650HP S/C Z06) crate engine. He claims he is going to swap it into his 1998 Trans Am. His first post was asking if the LSx headers would work, and noting that the wet sump (crate engine is also available in dry sump) oil pan does not look like it will work with the LS1 K-member. There's no one on Firebird Nation who has even thought about that swap.
Guy must have deep pockets, or maybe just an over-active imagination. The LT4 crate engine lists for over $16K, without a controller. Who knows what it costs in Denmark, with taxes, import duties, shipping, etc. If this turns out to be serious, it'll be interesting. I'll let you know if it makes any progress.
Firebird Nation is mostly a bunch of 1st and 2nd Gen Firebird owners, who despise any Firebird that doesn't have a genuine Pontiac engine. They basically stick to themselves, because they don't think 3rd and 4th Gens are real Firebirds, because they use other GM engines, in particular the hated Chevrolet engines. LOL
We've got a guy local that has one sitting in his garage ready to go in an 1980 Malibu. They are starting to get around
He's back (guy in Denmark). Claims to have the engine and a bell housing. Claims he bought the engine from GM in the US at a sale price of $12,000, and had it shipped from a warehouse in NJ. Didn't mention the controller. Asked him what he was going to do for a trans and rear in a 4th Gen. Says he has a 4L65E prepped by Art Carr in another blown 4th Gen that is good for 800 HP. But then he starts asking about using the 6-speed auto from a 2012 Camaro, will it fit in the tunnel, etc..
Hard to read his posts in broken, Google translated English. Maybe I should tell him he has a better chance of finding someone who has done, or is doing the swap on ls1tech. I've already told him there is no one on Firebird Nation that has even thought about a swap like that.
